Airstream has now reached Emerald Rating!

Airstream has always been taking the same environmentally friendly approach that has sustained them, and our planet, for nearly 80 years. Simply put, Airstream has been green as long as it has been silver. AirAirstream has reached emerald status!streams are designed to spend time on the road, not in the landfills. As such, nearly 70% of all Airstream trailers ever produced are still on the road! While other products are designed to wear out, Airstreams are designed to be handed down through the generations. Airstream also works with nature, not against it. Airstream’s founder, Wally Byam, knew that a low profile and a rounded, slippery shape would make for better towing in every respect. As a result, Airstreams enjoy a 20% advantage in towing efficiency over standard “white.”

Should your Airstream come to the end of its life after many decades of service, its primary components (aluminum, steel, and wood) are easily recycled. So go ahead and enjoy your Airstream with a sense of global responsibility, and comfort in the fact that you are adventuring in one of the most environmentally friendly travel trailers in the world. Always remember that Airstreamers leave a place better than they found it. Silver is indeed Green. TRA Certification of Elkhart, Ind., has awarded an overall “Emerald” rating to Airstream Inc.’s travel trailers and has designated the Jackson Center, Ohio-based company as a “Certified Green Capable Manufacturer” after evaluating its production facility. Citing Jackson Center, Ohio-based Airstream’s “streamlined production process that minimizes waste and utilizes low-emitting materials.”

TRA’s independent third-party certification team also recognized the manufacturer for using recycled water in its waterproof test booth. TRA said in a news release that certification of the facility indicates that Airstream “advocates the production of ‘green’ RVs in a sustainable manner.” Airstream travel trailers performed at the top “emerald’ level in TRA’s evaluation of energy efficiency. The overall gold rating was based on an evaluation of resource, energy and water efficiency, indoor environmental quality, and operation and maintenance. Both the product and manufacturing certifications are renewed annually and are subject to inspections throughout the year to ensure ongoing compliance, TRA said.
